Portraits
I am of a mixed Gambian and English heritage but it was not until my adult life that I began to explore my African heritage. My interest in portraiture reflects this evolution. The works are mostly completed using chalk pastel and ink, exploring the tonal qualities of the face. Through an instinctive use of colour I capture the very essence and mood of my subjects. Raised in a matriarchal society my focus is mainly women and the attributes they behold.
